ABOUT UNITED FOR RESPECT
United for Respect (UFR) and United for Respect Education Fund (UFREF) is a national organization dedicated to empowering and centering the voices of individuals working for the country’s largest retail corporations. Through scaled leadership development and base-building, UFREF challenges major corporations and policymakers to create an economy and democracy that meets the needs of all working people. We utilize traditional on-the-ground organizing best practices - in-person outreach in work places and homes and public events and actions - and leverage technology — social media and relational tools— to connect retail workers to a supportive community advocating for significant corporate and public policy changes.
ABOUT THE POSITION
UFR seeks a Research Analyst to conduct industry tracking, corporate research and data analysis in support of our retail industry accountability campaigns at Walmart and Amazon.
UFR is committed to building a more just and family-sustaining retail industry. We organize and activate retail workers employed by the largest retail corporations in the world to fight for respect and better working conditions. We believe raising standards at Walmart and Amazon will influence change across the industry, improving the lives of millions of workers in the United States.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the supervision of the Research Director, the Research Analyst will:
- Conduct strategic corporate research to advance our campaign objectives and change public narrative.
- Track the activities, policies, and public disclosures of Walmart, Amazon, and other key retail companies.
- Monitor relevant industry trends including policies, tech innovation, and legal/regulatory oversight.
- Analyze impact of corporate policies and industry standards on Black, Latinx, other POC, and women workers.
- Conduct individual and corporate research; at times working in close collaboration with member-leaders and alliance partners.
- Provide research support for campaign actions, press events and testimony for public hearings.
- Participate in the development of strategic research and campaign strategy, under the direction of senior campaign staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-3 years of experience doing corporate accountability research
- Enthusiastic commitment to worker and community leadership
- Strong commitment to racial, economic, and social justice issues
- Excellent research, writing, communication, analytic and organizational skills
- Proven ability to utilize information from and about workers, employers, economic / financial research on company or industry to inform and develop campaign strategies.
- Familiarity with corporate research, financial analysis, employment law or investigative journalism
- Ability to juggle multiple projects at a time and work in a fast-paced campaign environment
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people as well as an understanding of the daily challenges faced by low-income communities of color.
- Familiarity with earned media and digital strategies.
- Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to travel out of (home) state for conferences, meetings, and campaign events.
- Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not required.
- Comfortable with a remote work culture.
Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000 annually depending on experience and location.
